Responsibility throughout the production process
At bygrowers, we do our utmost to minimize the impact of our production activities on the environment. Therefore, for example, we irrigate our plants with rainwater from our rainwater tank, use biological pest control as a green alternative to pesticides, reduce our energy consumption with multilayer curtains and LED lights, and use grey pots made of recycled plastic. Moreover, we package most of our plants in FSC-certified paper packaging, so we are sure that it comes from responsibly managed forests. We thus produce high-quality plants that can be purchased with a clear conscience.
We adhere to all the rules required to produce our plants, as we are proud to be MPS-ABC, MPS-GAP, MPS-SQ, and GLOBAL.G.A.P GRASP certified. These certificates are our customers’ guarantee that we pay as much attention to the environment as possible throughout the whole production process.
MPS & GRASP
Our sustainability initiatives and environmental improvements are documented and reported on a monthly basis. This is because we are committed to the international environmental monitoring systems, Milieu Programma Sierteelt (MPS) and GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP). MPS and GRASP are international authorities which classify how sustainable and environmentally conscious plant nurseries are. We hold the following certificates:
MPS-GAP
MPS-GAP is a quality assurance system that ensures our customers that we comply with requirements such as traceability, environment, crop protection agents, and recall procedures. MPS-GAP is benchmarked against GLOBALG.A.P. and meets the FSI requirements. Our MPS-GAP certificate validates our use of safe production methods, and demonstrates our focus on continuously improving production and safety standards in our greenhouses.
MPS-SQ
MPS-SQ is a system which demonstrates that we meet national as well as international requirements in the field of employee rights, safety, and health. There are a lot of requirements that we must meet, and these requirements deal with employment, equality, and discrimination as much as it deals with safety and procedures for machines. Our MPS-SQ certificate ensures our customers that we take responsibility for the safety and well-being of our employees in the production of our plants.
MPS-ABC
MPS-ABC is a monitoring tool that helps us make sustainable decisions to reduce environmental impacts associated with for example pesticides, fertilizers, energy, water, and waste. By recording our consumption of energy, fertilizers, and chemicals in the greenhouses, it is measured how sustainably we produce our plants. This leads to a more conscious use of resources. Since we joined the MPS program, we have been MPS-A certified.
GLOBAL.G.A.P GRASP
GLOBAL.G.A.P GRASP is a social and labor management tool that helps us to monitor our practices in the greenhouses. Our GRASP certificate demonstrates that we are transparent throughout the entire production process, where good agricultural practices are not just about our plants; they are also about people. For example, we must meet legal requirements such as national minimum wages, regulations on working hours, minimum age of employment, etc.
GGN Label
Due to our commitments to international environmental registration systems, we have obtained a GGN label, which is a universal label for good farming practices, with a strong core in safety and traceability. Our GGN label ensures that the plants you purchase are produced under responsible conditions that conserve soil and water, use energy efficiently, reduce waste, enable biodiversity, and protect the people who produce them.
